Aims

The aim of this intensive two-day course is to provide teachers new to the Foundation stage with an insight into the key elements of practice. The course materials have been designed to support all Foundation stage teachers including nursery, reception and mixed aged class practitioners. Each delegate will receive as part of the course pack a CD containing a wide range of support materials and resources that they will be able to print and utilise in their settings.

Content

The areas of coverage will include.

  • Principles and ways of working;

  • Organising timetables and daily routines;

  • Planning and assessment;

  • Gathering observational evidence and the Foundation Stage Profile;

  • Development of thinking and learning skills;

  • Classroom organisation;

  • Child initiated learning;

  • The outdoor classroom;

  • Self-evaluation and formulation of Foundation stage development plans.
